The Teton Range
Geologically the Tetons are the youngest mountains in North America. The range itself is composed of rock that is among the hardest, toughest, and least porous known. Both these factors contribute to making these peaks iconic for their ruggedness. Upon seeing the Tetons for the first time Teddy Roosevelt said “Finally, a mountain range that looks the way mountains ought.” Some of the most unforgettable hikes in America are nestled in Grand Teton National Park, and during the winter visitors can access some of the most scenic terrain on snowshoes or cross-country skis.
Catholic Life
Less than one mile from Teton Glades is Our Lady of the Mountains (the parish church of Jackson Hole), which contains a blessed sacrament chapel. On Sundays, an 8am sung traditional Mass is offered in the Ordinary Form. The nearby Chapel of the Sacred Heart in Grand Teton National Park is one of only two consecrated Catholic Churches that are located within the boundaries of a United States National Park.
Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem
Jackson Hole is part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the last remaining large, nearly intact ecosystems in the northern temperate zone of the Earth. Its 22 million acres of wilderness have a relatively tiny human footprint, and permit the flourishing of large populations of bighorn sheep, elk, antelope, bison, moose, grizzly bears, wolves, and mountain lions. Spotting these majestic animals promotes an awe-inspiring feeling that in Jackson Hole humans might be some of the weaker and less-necessary creatures in the valley.
